Wow, I managed to get here first again. o.O! I'll try to be less biased in this one; I'm still learning how to do these review things, mmkay? I'm not so good at putting what I'm hearing into words. :/
Onwards!
CD
Disco Time: Since I hadn't heard Disco Time before it was released, unlike with Freaky Planet, I was all pleasantly surprised and have as yet not had months to listen to it, so my impressions of it are subject to change. But first of all - I love it! Loooooove it!
You guys who are getting sick of Freaky Planet due to the remix contest may find the resemblance between the songs to be a bit of overkill, so keep that in mind, but take the song with a grain of salt - they're not identical, just similar. ^_^
It's mostly the background music that you can hear the similarities in, which you notice the most in the intro, or if you listen to the instrumental. Actually, I tried humming the lyrics to Freaky Planet to the background of Disco Time and it actually basically fits, with a little tweaking here and there. XD;
It's still got T-Kimura doing robot voices between Yuri's lines. Motsu's got a short rapping bit after the first chorus, and then a longer (and IMO, really awesome) one after the second chorus. And personally, I think Yuri's English pronunciation is getting better; maybe it's just me. It's always been pretty good compared to some of the other singers I've heard who use it a lot.
The song's very fun, and sounds like their go-out-and-have-a-good-time kind of music. It's what I like to call 'head-bobbing' music; not head BANGING, just bobbing. It's the kind of song that you can't help wanting to dance around to. It's hard to describe; it sounds like it's retro and modern at the same time.
This Is My Heartache: Slower song, just like on the last single, The Longest Movie was slower. But it's no less awesome...
We get both sides of Yuri's voice; the newer, lower version of it that we've been getting since around Painless Pain, and an echo of her higher-pitch that she had back-in-the-day. Yuri pretty much dominates this particular song; Motsu's got a couple short rap parts but they're all made up of the same lines.
The song sort of gives me this bittersweet feeling; obviously it's got something to do with heartbreak, but Yuri also says things like "precious time" and "memory" that make it sound like the song's reflecting on what good times the song's subject used to have.
Music-wise, the verses have a mellow little tune going (accented by some electronic sounds), and the chorus gets built up around a nice steady drum beat. It sounds pretty simple, but it accents the lyrics well.
All in all, a cute little B-side; Move never disappoints me. ^_^
DVD
Disco Time PV: As suspected, it's a continuation of the Freaky Planet video. It's night time now, and Motsu's taken the wheel while T-Kimura sleeps in the passenger seat (haha, pun) and Yuri sleeps in the back. Motsu's all tired too and turns the radio on to keep himself awake, and that's when the song starts.
He then proceeds to bounce about in the seat, waving his arms about and mouthing the lyrics (much like I do when I drive) up through his first rapping section. Then he pulls out a cigarette and lights up. He goes to grab something out of the back seat but his bracelet gets caught on one of the suitcase handles, so his arm is stuck.
He flips his sunglasses up to see what he's stuck on, trying to keep his eyes on the road at the same time. He tries to wake T-Kimura to no avail, then reaches his other arm back and tries to free himself; car swerves into the next lane and he quickly jerks the wheel straight again, knocking an empty can onto the floor.
He tries to wake Yuri next, but she brushes him off and goes back to sleep (at which point Motsu makes this wicked irritated gesture like, "What does a guy gotta do to get a little help, here?!")
He goes to use his other hand again but he manages to get the bracelet on that hand caught, too. Now he tries to hit the brake, but the can he knocked over earlier is caught under the pedal. They approach the guard rail, and in a desperate move, Motsu starts steering with his foot.
T-Kimura sort of wakes up and gives Motsu this disgruntled look before going back to sleep, while Motsu's trying to communicate (with a cigarette in his mouth, so without words) his plight. Motsu narrowly misses hitting a truck.
Cut to a crime scene; some guy seems to be holding a little kid hostage, and the police are threatening to shoot. Cue Move's car barrelling into the intersection where this is taking place. The cop fires and the bullet passes just in front of Motsu's face. The hostage-taker is so startled that he forgets about the little girl, who runs across the street to her parents. Move saves the day!
Motsu swerves around a construction site, finally manages to yank his arms free, and slams the car to a stop (crushes the can). T-Kimura, Yuri, and he lurch forward (the other two finally wake up); Motsu spits his cigarette into his lap, then jumps out of the car and brushes it off him.
To be continued...
Moral? Don't smoke and drive. Oh, and TK and Yuri slept through all those veering turns and Motsu's panic and a gunshot... o.O;
Raimei ~out of kontrol~ Preview:
Announcer: m.o.v.e. presents... Third Stage - Raimei ~out of kontrol~. A world of fantasy... where the extraoridinary... is impossible to avoid... (2005.11.23) Coming soon.
In the video, it looks like Move's found their way to a cottage or something, and they're watching Initial D... and then... they get sucked into the TV, and become characters in the show! Woo!
The song itself sounds more serious and less fun than Freaky Planet and Disco Time, but lends itself well to the racing atmosphere that they're thrown into. And it goes back to the type of chorus where Motsu sings, then Yuri sings, then Motsu, then Yuri, unlike their last few songs where Yuri does a whole section herself without Motsu saying stuff, and Motsu does a whole section himself without Yuri saying stuff, etc.
All in all, really liked the whole thing~ Makes me even more incredibly depressed that I can't go see them in concert, though... T____T
