I'm rather shocked that I'm, for once, the first person to post on a single's release. o.O; Usually at LEAST Richard beats me to it... ah well...
After a long and arduous journey to the post office in the town nearest my college to pick up the package that they couldn't just leave at the dorm... *grumbles* I got my Freaky Planet CD+DVD combo. ^_^V
And there was much rejoicing. *yay*
So, I don't know if anyone else got theirs yet... so I'm just going to give you my thoughts on it:
CD:
1. Freaky Planet - I think most of us have heard at least part of this song in some form or another, now that they've got it on iTunes and whatnot, so I can't say much else than I liked it when I first heard it last month, and I still like it now. And the lyric book (and the PV; more on that in a minute) confirms that T-Kimura sings/says the robotic-voiced bits.
::proceeds to post accidentally:: Hate you, enter key...
Ahem. Moving on...
2. The Longest Movie - I like this B-side quite a bit. It's a little on the slow side, so some people may not like it for that, but I think it's got a nice feel to it. It also makes me happy because I can now read some of the characters in the lyrics book for it, but that's another story entirely... >.>;
No T-Kimura in this one; it's back to the usual Yuri sings-Motsu raps format. Although Motsu's rapping is in that sort of half-rapping, half-singing style that he's been using since maybe Decadance came out, for lack of a better word for it.
The background's pretty mellow; some cool sounds in the intro, strong drum beat, mostly guitar and electronic sounds. Nothing really new (or old, unfortunately for all you guys who were hoping for something from back-in-the-day).
I'm sorry I can't describe it better... Molotov's better at this review stuff than me! @_@;;;
Anyway... instrumentals aren't really worth touching on; same songs, just no words. XD Onward to the DVD!
DVD
1. Freaky Planet PV - Hmm. A lot of people thought Nobody Reason was boring... I think the video for Freaky Planet is boring. It pains me to say so, because I love Move and I love just about everything they produce, but... the entirety of the video is composed of Yuri, T-Kimura, and Motsu in a (admittedly very cool-looking) car, driving along.
Well, first it opens with text on the screen that says, "Move presents... First Stage: Freaky Planet", THEN they get in the car and start driving.
Every minute or so, another car passes them, and it sort of freeze-frames the shot and blurs the outlines (it looks kind of like some of the stuff I've made in PSP7 T_T;;; ) I think the drivers of the other cars are supposed to be sinister or something.
Then you get the obligatory shots of the whole group in some random indoor location with microphones and instruments and Age of Punk. Motsu's got no shirt on, for the information of my fellow Swooning Motsu Fangirls© (*coff*). He's also done something mad with his hair; it's some sort of mohawk-looking thingy.
Yuri just looks pretty as usual and, unfortunately for all the Drooling Yuri Fanboys© (*coff*), is fully clothed.
...And T-Kimura appears to be wearing lipstick. Who said Move was going Visual Kei, again? I applaud you...
Anyway, that's the entire video. Car, freeze frame, band shot, car, freeze frame, band shot...
Then it ends with, "To be continued..."
2. Disco Time preview video - The DVD also came with a preview for next month's music video (and subsequently, the single that goes with it). Apparently it's literally a continuation of the Freaky Planet video.
It opens with the text (and a freaky-sounding voiceover): "Move presents... Second Stage: Disco Time".
In the clip, we learn that something is seriously wrong with the Move trio falling asleep in a moving vehicle, (voiceover: The excitement builds...)... More shots of them sleeping... (voiceover: the suspense thrills...)
Cut to a scene with lots of cops, a frightened crowd, and what looks to be a man holding some kid hostage (I kid you not... PUN INTENDED). Cut to Motsu lighting a cigarrette. XD; (voiceover: On the road to a place and time beyond...)
Cut to the car swerving all over the road and T-Kimura and Motsu screaming at the top of their lungs (voiceover: Coming soon... // on-screen text: 2005.10.26).
The end.
So I'm not really sure what on earth is going on. Is Move trying to make their own reality show through music videos? Is Motsu really that bad at driving? CAN YOU HANDLE THE SUSPENSE!?!?
Disco Time sounds like it'll be a really cool song, though. From what you can hear under the announcer, it sounds kind of like Freaky Planet, except a bit more perky. Yuri's voice is distorted, which sounds neat.
And that's my cruddy review of the new single. Somebody outdo me... please? XD;;;
