After 7 long years, it is very likely that Move will be dropped by Avex after the release of their new album, Deep Calm. Quote from T-Kimura: I am understanding that move may be dropped after deep calm and that the reason is because of the jpop control over music in japan. I am sure this news will deeply sadden you, as it has done to my friends and I. Please stand up and show your support to Move by posting your comments at their official BBS, at www.electropica.com . THE SALES OF DEEP CALM WILL MOST LIKELY BE CRUCIAL TO MOVE'S CONTRACT WITH AVEX! IF YOU ARE A TRUE MOVE FAN, PLEASE DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO DOWNLOAD THIS ALBUM. Deep Calm is avaliable to purchase from www.yesasia.com and www.cdjapan.co.jpIf you require any more information I will try my best to help you. Richard. Edit: With the sales of Deep Calm being higher than expected, and a new remix album and single on the horizon, maybe Avex have changed their minds

I don't get the whole "Jpop control" reference. What does that mean?

T_T I don't get it either... And i would buy their disc, i would! But they are so damn expensive! And i live in the opposite side of the world so it's even more expensive to buy it! If there was a way to buy their album and not to pay for the damn shipping costs, i would have bought Move's albums long ago...
The other things is that CD Japan, for example, doesn't accept my mom's credit card (i have tried to buy some things from them before) so i can't buy it there... u_uU
But i wish i could help!!
At least, i'll go and post something in the official BBS... T_T

I post this to try to clarify the jpop control comment.
exact translation:
To some extent lowering the curtain to the farcical play of the music industry which cannot discard bubble feeling, we want facing to future, it rubbed
what does this mena??
--The music industy in Japan is completely controled by 4 major companies. It is built up to churn out Jpop (japanese pop=popular or the original meaning pop= the sound of bubblegum- a reference to the carefree sound of songs and the singers who sing the songs).
Japan lives for cute things and new things. Even super jpop bands like Speed have come and gone (in this case come again) and Move cannot compete with the everchanging Jpop community. Yes there are lots of Move fans but when Japan as a mass like generic music, unique bands like move get pushed aside and are left with either disbanding or finding a indie label (but this also gets hard as advertising opportunities are almost non-existant for those labels).
Anyway, Kimura writes about the industry no being able to discard bubble feelings / can't get the balls to try nwe music and step forward in the Japanese music scene. This is the Jpop control. Jpop is a nice safe and fuzzy way to make money, going out on a limb is not.
take my writing as you will, maybe this will all blow over, maybe deep calm will gain huge popularity, ya never know.

Thank you for the explanation. I'm going to Move's official site now to try and read the letter, since i'm a japanese-english translation student. My japanese level is really basic, but i just want to see if i can help. ^_^ Anyway, i've already posted a message in your topic, Richard-san, about this issue (BTW, i wish i could speak japanese like you!). ^_~ Thank you for keeping us informed.

Posted too (posting here a bit late ^^; ). And now, a Move-lyric that I believe applies to this thread:
"And now everyone's got to come together We want every sound to be loud forever"
Ain't that the truth. Let's just post like mad on their board and hope for a reply! *crosses all her fingers*

I won't say the things that's already been mentioned.
I never knew about the J-Pop control until I read this thread. I want to know how this process works. Is it done annually? Does this mean other J-Pop artists gets the shaft as well? It's all mind-boggling for me!
Yeah, the news is quite bad for us Move fans. I wonder if Avex looks at Move as a liability. I hope Move gets picked up by another record label giant. Let's all hope this whole thing blows over.

ajcv: Right now, at yesasia.com, if you spend $39, you get free standard shipping. This is easily achieved by buying just two CDs. So, if you feel like spending the money, your shipping problems would be taken care of.
Richard: Um... I would like to post to the BBS, but I don't know a word of Japanese. Is there anyway you could tell me how to post by just referencing locations of buttons or something? Thanks.

If you run the BBS through: babelfish.altavista.com/then you'll be able to read the form. The only thing I don't think it translates is the button at the bottom, but I can tell you that it's the "submit" button. Hope that helps.

Thx for the info.
As I wrote it in my post on move's official BBS, I'm convinced that the only responsible for move's sell decrease is Avex. How could move sell CDs of people in Japan don't even know the band still exists? Their promotion is not sufficient in my opinion, everything goes to Ayu and a few other artists, and move is being forgotten. Since their fourth album, Avex hasn't supported them anymore, and Blast my desire did not have a decent promotion. As a matter of proof, has anyone seen the PV on TV? The 2 live files from World's End and Deep Calm can be found all around the web, but no trace of the main video, the PV for the ne single. What does it give to work for a major label in this case?
Anyway, I hope everything will get better in the near future. I already pre-ordered the new album a few days ago (can't wait for the live DVD! ^^), and I'd be really disappointed if it was the last of move's albums before a long time.
Please keep up the good work Richard, Joseph and the others. I hope I'll see better news from the band on these pages soon.

I hear you, Shito. I definitely think that Avex's main concern is making hype for the more 'generic' Jpop bands and singers. Move's originality is apparently a turn off for those who would rather hear what they're used to rather than trying something new. It makes me sad; I love originality, and all these manufactured pop stars are the reason I switched to Jpop from US pop music - I was looking for something new and refreshing. I found it in Move. Their constantly-changing style is what kept - and continues to keep - me hooked. They're DIFFERENT, and if being different means that Avex has to drop them, then I hope they go off and make their own way like Two-Mix did. Prove Avex wrong by becoming super-successful.
Just my two cents. ^^;

Man, I thought something like this might happen sooner or later. There are so many other mediocre bands out there who should be dropped instead of Move. Move puts quality into their work, and no matter what I say, I'm always happy to hear a new Move single. Richard: Um... I would like to post to the BBS, but I don't know a word of Japanese. Is there anyway you could tell me how to post by just referencing locations of buttons or something? Thanks. Molotov, just click on the "What is happening?" thread that Richard started (you don't have to sign up or anything). And here are the some of the words you will see (click here): www.cet.nau.edu/~jsw26/ent/music/move/bbs1.gif
