Along with the new album and new single, Move will be releasing their first DVD-A album (DVD-Audio) on the 28th January 2004. The album will be Super Tune ~Best Selections~ If you want to know more about DVD-A and the improvement over standard Audio CD, then have a look here: www.digitalaudioguide.com/faq/dvd-audio/faq_intro.htmIf you are going to buy this DVD-A, then make sure you have a compatible DVD player or the correct software on your PC to play it. You can purchase this DVD-A from YesAsia.com Looks like I'm gonna have to buy a new DVD player Though surround sound Move will be just awesome!!! ;D ;D Richard.

I think this new DVD-A format has its benefits and drawbacks. Sure, it's nice from a marketer's perspective to push new products into people carts because it's the 'latest thing.' But the higher quality makes it so the entire music industry has work to improve the quality of the discs and are encouraged to produce more content. But the average music group can't be expected to make more songs than usual, expecting them to work harder and longer or something.
I'm going to lag behind in technology until it's a necessity to own. Besides, Super Tune doesn't have many songs I like.

And when they work harder to make these discs, they'll charge more for them, which will make everybody have to work harder. Funny, I thought new technology was supposed to make life easier, not harder. The human race has plunged itself into a never-good-enough endless tech advancement spiral. Do I have conservative written all over my face or what? And to think I'm a person who bought the PS2 as soon as it came out.

Heh, I am totally opposite to Joseph. I am pro-technology ;D
Technology is going so small, just look at cell phones. But soon it will go so small that it will start to go bigger again. Well that is the theory anyway...

Always wondered what a DVD-A was.. I'm not going to get it, even though it sounds really cool. I already own the CD and for me to buy a new DVD player and the same CD.. sadly i have to pass. Cool idea though

The DVD-A album is a neat idea but I don't think it's necessary. The original CD-A format seems just fine for me.
Are there any other J-Pop artist(s) that released albums in this format?

I did a search and I found that Ayumi's Rainbow album was released on DVD-A format in July. www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=AVAD-91200I guess since Avex's premiere singer Ayumi has starting doing it, and other Avex groups are sure to follow. I've also seen a big list of American released DVD-As on DVDPlanet.com, like Alanis Morisette and stuff. The earliest DVD-A releases there I saw were from 2001.

Yeah they haven't really taken off yet. I guess it will take a few years to take off, like DVD-Video.

You should've seen me when DVDs first came out. The fuss I made. I will resist any new technology that threatens my current way of life (and my wallet).

Hi, Sorry if I may make dumb suppositions, but for the moment although I'm interested in buying the DVD-A, I prefer to stay careful by waiting and not considering the sound of move's DVD-A as surround until I found any confirmation to confirm it, and the pblm is I couldn't see any info yet for that on the net. So can anybody tell me where is there info about if it is surround or not, as that's the only reason for which I would buy it ? I also wonder who made the surround mix if it was really done, as I'm not sure it could have been T.K though the logic would choose him.

I orginally thought it was 5.1 surround, but it seems that it is only 2 channel stereo (96KHz 24bit). I think the DVDA also has some videos, but I'll have to check that. Have a look here for more information.

Apparently, Isa has it and says that it is 5.1 ;D She says the sound quality is far superior to the CD

Its a matter of compression. Audio data in its raw form is HUGE, and to allow it to fit on a cd, it gets compressed to 192 kbps. MP3 are also a compression ratio that samples the cd at any given rate.
Think of a sine wave, it goes up and down, smooth. If you zoom in on the wave of a cd quality audio track, it will look bumpy, even jaggedy. Those imperfections are the lost bits whenthe music was compressed.
DVD-A is just a dvd that can obviously hold more data than a standard cd and thus can put less compressed audio tracks on them.
The drawback is you can only play them on dvd based units (dvd player, dvd-rom, etc.) and the playback is only as good as your stereo playing it back.
On a side note, there are more and more dvd movies called Superbit coming out that use the same principles, but it also means that all the extra features will have to go on separate dvds or some dropped.

Hey Isa, could you please help me to decide wheter or not I should buy Move's DVD-A, by telling me how could you determine exactly it is 5.1 surround, unlike the stereo sound announced on avex official page about this DVD-A? For instance, did you hear well separate instruments sounds from each of your speakers when playing the DVD-A?
And btw how come Isa's site "trancin usa" isn't in the move site links of this board?
