My dad just bought me another CD. It is "Thrive" by Newsboys. But the type of music I usually like is techno, hip hop, jazz and pop. And Thrive is a rock group. Now, I don't usually like grunge rock music too much . Newsboys is an American Christian group. And I'm a Baptist. There are two Christian techno groups that I know about:
Raze- The instruments do not flow well together.
Jump5- It's one of those semi-techno teen pop groups.
I'd be more likely to listen to Jump5 than Raze because Jump5 sounds better. There is also Christian hip hop groups that I like:
ZoeGirl- They sound like Destiny's Child
Tunnel Rats- rap music
I don't listen to Christian or American music very often, but sometimes I do. I really like that Swedish group A*Teens because their newest CD "Pop 'Til You Drop" has become techno. I guess the song they're known for is "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You" (from Lilo & Stitch). Being creative as they are, they stole that song from Elvis.
I haven't gotten into jazz very much yet. I like that Californian group Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, but they are not very moral-minded. And yes, I like that ancient kind of Frank Sinatra/Cab Calloway big band style . There is one other artist that I sometimes listen to and that is Natacha Atlas. Her music is ethnically Egyptian but it is mixed with modern europop so it sounds good. I think she mostly lives in Egypt now and the lyrics are in Arabic. In my CD, she also has one song in French and one in English.
You see, I don't listen to oldies because that is either rock or minimalistic music and I just don't need it.
This is a list of my favorite Japanese groups:
1 Move
2 Two-Mix
3 Dream
4 Rina Aiuchi
5 Orbitribe
6 Globe
7 W-inds
I have a feeling I'm going to be adding Megumi Hayashibara and Eriko Imai to that list after I get their CDs in the mail this week. My favorite Two-Mix song is "Into the Wind," it's just so magnificent. I recently decided Dream is my third favorite group. In their songs, they care about morality, unlike ::ahem:: some groups. And the instruments are really good , but their singing doesn't have as much expression as it could. Notice that Ayumi Hamasaki is not anywhere on that list. That's because she is rock music and her voice sounds choppy in "Independent"!
On Friday, I listened to samples of all the music groups at Toshiba EMI. Here are the groups that sounded techno to me:
Alpha
Fire Ball
Invade
Maki Ohguro
At Toshiba, there were quite a few geisha women who sang Japanese ethno (mixture of ethnic and modern pop) which was both funny and amusing. There is also three techno-sounding groups I found at Sony:
Access
Run & Gun
Takkyu Ishino
Access has one album so far called "Crossroads." Run & Gun, which is kind of like a boy version of Folder 5/Pucchi Moni/Mini Moni, will be releasing their first album in about December. Takkyu Ishino has a new single called "Come Baby" featuring Yasuyuki Okamura and I bet that song sounds good from the sample I heard. Ishino was in the group Denki Groove, which was strange experimental techno.
However, I'm about to stop looking for techno groups because I found something I like instead. I'm sure there's some video game soundtracks that I would like. There are some dancing games Para Para Paradise, Dance Dance Revolution and Beatmania. They must have some good soundtracks, although the music will be too fast. Plus, I will probably like the soundtrack for Kingdom Hearts, especially since it is bouncy pop. The place to get video game soundtracks is www.GameMusic.com.
Happy listening!
