Okay everyone, I highly suggest going over to Ryuichi Sakamoto's website and listening to the Chain-Music that is available. (You have to click Start, and it will take A WHILE to load, especially for dial-up users, at it will load a 45-minute sound file. So click it and go do something else ). You should check out his explanation under the notion link, but as a synopsis, the music clip is a compilation of so far 19 artists. The idea is to add to the music either as overlay or to extand the track with something that conveys the feeling of hope for peace in Iraq. Whether or not the music actually does that is going to be a matter of personal opinion. Plus, a lot of the stuff is very experimental, so the definition of music (as is sometimes common for Sakamoto) is not very conventional. Still, regardless of how much you do or don't like the track, I think the concept is cool, and it's worth listening to at least once. So, here's the link: www.sitesakamoto.com/chainmusicAs a little bit of background: Sakamoto is a very well known composer in Japan, especially for his piano works and his more experimental forays. He was one of the members of YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra) before they split up, and has therefore been in the business for quite a while. If you like what you hear on the track, I recommend cheking out his album Chasm. There is also a new album expected in late May, though I don't know the nature of this one (it may turn out to be all piano compositions).
