Hey folks, Can you believe 'Spirited Away' walked away with the Animated Film Oscar?? That movie has too much Japanese symbolism for Americans to understand. I would not have given the Oscar to that movie if I had a say. I mean, it wasn't that fantastic of a movie. It's just about some girl who works at a bathhouse. ~Joseph~

Okay. "Spirited Away" is the name of an anime movie by Hayao Miyazaki. Its Japanese name is "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi." It's about this girl, Chihiro, who goes through this tunnel, and she enters this fantasy world. That's why it's like Alice in Wonderland. They make Chihiro do chores in this big bathhouse for the gods. Spirited Away is the biggest grossing film ever in Japan. It had a limited release in theatres in the US in September 2002. Disney has the rights to it in the US. See their site for more information: disney.go.com/disneyvideos/animatedfilms/miyazaki/index2.html"Spirited Away" won the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Animated Feature Film at the 75th Annual Academy Awards. See this and the other winners at the Oscar site: www.oscars.com/oscarnight/winners.htmlI saw Spirited Away last fall for extra credit for my Japanese class. We have an anime club here at our university, but I've never been a part of it. I'm not taking Japanese this semester either. Some people really think that Spirited Away is all fabulous, but I don't too much. ~Joseph~
